I was born in Tallin, Estonia and migrated with my family to Australia as a young child. Art and design has always been the centre of my life.

My Estonian heritage and my experiences in Australia have both played an important part in my artistic development. I synthesise my heritage and experience with materials of various origin and composition. I create silver pieces using materials of various origins, such as free-form cut boulder opal, found objects, antique pottery shards, small bone and timber carvings collected in my travels around Australia and the world.

Artists and craftsmen have always surrounded me, influencing my style. From an early age I was influenced by Estonian-born silversmith Niina Ots, who created works using semi-precious stones. She often found objects such as river stones to use in her silver jewellery. Niina was trained in rigorous traditional European techniques and encouraged me to take up silversmithing and to develop my own style.

In 1987, after years of renovating houses and working in interior design, I took a course in sandstone sculpting that led me to an interest in ceramics. In 1988 I commenced studies in ceramics at the University of NSW under Cleona Patterson, followed by life drawing and pastels at the Royal Art Society of NSW under Marilyn Hay. Other teachers and mentors have been Ernst Pfenniger, Valerie Aked and Mariusz Tomaszewski.

I have participated in various local and private exhibitions and my works feature in several private collections. Some of my work can be viewed at CraftNSW.

My work also featured in OzArts 16 Magazine
